Biography

OCTOBER SKYY was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. On October 8th, to a relatively comfortable family. She was raised with both her parents and two sisters and one brother, in a middle class neighborhood. She spent much of her time watching old movies, acting out lines and day dreaming about being a Hollywood writer.  Not exactly an honor student, Skyy’s mind often drifted in class and instead of paying attention to the teachers and the assignments given out in school, Skyy would make notes all over her course work and then go home and create short stories. Once they were complete she would force her younger sister and brother to act out the parts in front of their parents.  From a child Skyy was fascinated by the blaxploitation film genre of super soul flicks of the 1970s. It wasn’t until she was older that she realized the negative connotation that they left.  In 1998, Skyy moved to Atlanta, Ga. where she was first introduced to the film industry. In 2002 she began working as an extra on the set of paramount pictures, The Fighting Temptations, and various independent films and music video sets.  Quickly picking up on the procedure of creating a film from writing, to pre to post production, Skyy entered her first film festival and with the help of Hattie Lemon, won the award for best directing with her film 24 hours.  Still hungry for more knowledge, Skyy moved to New York in 2004 and studied film at the New York Film Academy. During this time she completed three short films, one of which, Crying was an official selection of the November 2005, New York International Film and Video Festival.  Besides producing short films, Skyy likes to try her hand at acting. She landed a role on The Maury Povich Show re-enacting a scene of a mother of two that was shot and left for dead by her husband.  Skyy's first love is and will always be writing. She feels that if you are going through a storm, you can close your eyes and dream of your travels then paint the dreams using words.  Having  to maintain and survive, hustling became second nature to her. Her experiences and the writings of Donald Goines and Iceberg Slim influenced Skyy to become a writer.  Skyys goals are to start her own production company and also to open a center for youth and teach them creative writing and a closer look into the film industry
